Day 187: Take a Ghost Tour at Sotterley Plantation

One of my favorite times of year is Halloween – so many great ways to have frightful fun!  A new activity I’ll be adding to my spooktacular October this year is the 2011 Ghosts of Sotterley walking tour.  This year, the theme is 1878: Washed Ashore.  The Sotterley Plantation ghouls describe it like this:

This year’s tour will take guests back in time to the year 1878, when Sotterley was owned by Dr. Walter Hanson Stone Briscoe and his wife, Emeline.  The family’s enjoyment of prosperity, good friends, county notoriety, and living the good life has been interrupted.  A ship wreck has occurred at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and Dr. Briscoe has been called upon to treat the survivors.  The plantation is reeling from the disaster and teeming with uninvited visitors – the restless spirits of the newly departed as well as the spirits of those long past who have been unsettled by the upheaval.

Because of the popularity of these annual ghost tours, reservations are required.  But no worries – you can easily buy your tickets online at their website.  Make sure to dress comfy for the walk, and consider leaving the littlest youngsters at home.  Happy Haunting!
