Day 119: 5th Annual Potomac Wildlife Art and Decoy Show May 13th-14th

Join with the Community Foundation of Charles County as the group celebrates the 5th annual Potomac Wildlife Art & Decoy Show on May 13 and 14, 2011 at the College of Southern Maryland.

Come out and watch the wild come to life as award-winning artists showcase their world class wildlife art, and experience all this while helping those in need. Proceeds from the show will support the foundation, and a scholarship supporting the arts at the College of Southern Maryland.

The show opens Friday, May 13, 6:30 with the “Cattails and Cocktails” Reception. Join us for an evening with the artists, purchase wildlife art, waterfowl decoys, beach glass jewelry, wood carvings and more, enjoy a catered Outback Steakhouse dinner, wine and beer, live music and bring in your decoys from home for free appraisals. Cost for the dinner is $50 per person and must be purchased in advance.

On Saturday will be a Special “Breakfast with the Carvers” to be held at College of Southern Maryland, La Plata. If you are interested in decoys, both old and new, you will hear from three of today’s most acclaimed carvers– Ray Whetzel, Bruce Eppard and William Bruce – to discuss how the tools and traditions of Chesapeake Bay decoy carvers of the past 100 years find their way into their modern creations. The session will be moderated by Chad Tragakis, a regular contributor to Decoy Magazine and president of the Potomac Decoy Collector’s Association. TICKETS MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE! $15 per person.

Both Friday night and all Saturday, folks attending the Potomac Wildlife Art and Decoy Show will get to mingle with artists, purchase wildlife photography, watercolors, oil paintings, beach jewelry, wood carvings, decoy and other wildfowl carvings and more. In addition, members of the Potomac Decoy Collectors Association will be exhibiting antique duck decoys for show and sale. Free decoy identification and appraisals will also be available to visitors.

Saturday the show is from 10 – 5 p.m. and admission is free. Also on Saturday, the Rappahannock Decoy Carvers and Collectors Guild will be sponsoring a Working Decoy Competition.
