Casey Jones is La Plata, MD’s best kept secret. While it’s a great place to eat, drink, and socialize, it suffers from a bit of an identity crisis.
On one side, pressed against the railroad tracks (hence the name) is everybody’s favorite local bar. One the other side is The Crossing, a restaurant that strives to be upscale by offering complicated dishes like roast duck and prime rib amidst a quiet, classy atmosphere. What makes Casey Jones really interesting is that they have more or less accomplished this juxtaposition successfully, with a raucous bar atmosphere co-existing peacefully without interruption of the fine dining next door.
It goes without saying that the food here is outstanding. The Ahi Tuna I had last time was perfection on a plate, and the baked Alaska dessert is incredible. The chef has put a lot of work into creating a menu of interesting dishes, pairing strong choices into a fine palate, and their crab cake sandwiches are also top notch.
Casey Jones is the perfect place to be on a Friday night, regardless of whether you prefer dressing up or just hanging out.
