For most Charles County residents, the Twin Kiss has been open longer than we have been alive. It’s a throwback to the ’50’s, and while much has changed, the Twin Kiss seems to be an odd relic, frozen in time for posterity.
Twin Kiss originally opened in 1959, and it was actually a chain restaurant at the time, but the location outlived the franchise. The franchise claimed to be the first company to mix soft serve ice cream flavors, saving us all from the doldrums of monochromatic soft serve and ushering in a bright new age of hybrid ice creams.
Well, at least they still do a pretty tasty soft serve! They also offer your standard roadside 60’s diner food- hot dogs, burgers, frie, onion rings, etc., but I really go the for the ice cream. Their parking lot is also a popular spot in the summers to see an impromptu car show, with people taking the kids out for a treat in the old hot rods. Heck, I’ve been known to partake myself from time to time.
The desserts here are cheap, the serving sizes are generous, and while the food may not be gourmet, it’s certainly all American. If you haven’t been down there before (or it’s been awhile since your last visit), make sue you plan to make the trip!
