Day 45: Go See “Doubt: A Parable” in Lexington Park, MD

For years, the only notable theatre troupe in Southern Maryland was the Port Tobacco Players, a long standing group based in La Plata, MD.  Recently, however, there’s been a young upstart theatre company that has been steadily gaining followers in St. Mary’s County.

That group is the Newtowne Players, and they’re currently based out of the former Lexington Park public library, now known as the Three Notch Theatre.  Their next production is a Broadway smash hit and winner of a 2005 Tony Award called “Doubt”.  “Doubt” is about Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, who takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper behavior.

It’s a gripping show, and it’s equally as exciting to see community theatre taking root in St. Mary’s County.  The production will run from January 28th to February 13th, and a complete list of hours and show times are available on their website.
