Kodori Restaurant in Waldorf, MD has just become my new favorite local restaurant. I really love good sushi, and although they bill themselves as a Japanese and Korean Restaurant, they really excel when it comes to the sushi.
I started dinner with a bowl of Miso Soup and Ginger Salad. I didn’t have very high standards for this tiny little storefront when I walked in because it reminded me more of a greasy spoon diner than it did your typical Asian restaurant. My apprehension quickly disappeared, however, as I first tasted the Miso soup. It was surprisingly excellent, with large chunks of tofu and a wonderful balance of flavors. The ginger salad was just as satisfying, tangy and sweet.
I asked the waiter what his favorite sushi on the menu, and he recommended the Waldorf roll. I happily took his recommendation, and ordered the following:
In short, I was in over the moon with satisfaction. The Maryland roll had (what else) crab meat with a sprinkling of Old Bay seasoning, and the Waldorf roll was a dizzying combination of several types of fish and a crunchy topping that complimented the selection perfectly.
The spicy salmon was memorable as well, with a touch of spiciness to it, but it was obvious that years of perfection had gone into the preparation of the sushi as it managed to not be overpowering. I would dare say the Kodori could rival some of my favorite sushi restaurants, including Hey Sushi in Chicago or Sushi Huku in D.C.
Kodori also offers a pickup option if you would prefer not to dine in, and I’m looking forward to taking advantage of such a surprisingly well prepared sushi selection more often!
