I can’t help myself when it comes to my sweet tooth addiction. Every time I see a local bakery I feel compelled to stop and indulge, and while my midsection grows with every stop, my taste buds are thanking me.
I made a special trip down to La Plata, MD to visit the Charles Street Bakery. I’ve been there before but I wanted to stop again before writing about them, you know, make sure the cupcakes were still up to par and so forth. For the record: They are.
What I love about this place is that it’s really much more than just a place to buy a sugar buzz. I’m a particular fan of the stuffed croissants, but they have a variety of sandwiches, and it’s easy to stop in (free wi-fi, too!) for lunch and buy a few cupcakes as well.
My biggest problem is that when I go there, if I don’t buy multiple cupcakes I know they will never survive the ride home. That’s not the bakery’s fault though, it’s just that they’re too tasty to risk not enjoying them while they are still fresh.
They’ve gained quite the reputation over the years as an excellent place for wedding and special order cakes, and while I haven’t had the pleasure yet, it’s not hard to find people who rave about their cakes and service.
I’m hopeful that they decide to open up a shop in Waldorf one day so I don’t have to travel as far, but this is definately one of those spots that’s well worth the trip. They’re easy to find, located right on Charles St. in La Plata, MD, across from the Port Tobacco Players building.
